Family preference visas have annual and per-country numerical limits. These are not the immediate-relative categories for spouses, unmarried children under 21, or parents of adult U.S. citizens. F1 here is a family preference, not an F-1 student visa.

A priority date must be strictly earlier than a dated cutoff. Official category and chargeability footnotes, including F2A per-country exemptions and allocation limits, also apply. Current (C) means no cutoff; Unavailable (U) means no visas authorized. Visa-number availability does not establish an approval or interview date.

USCIS family I-485 chart choice: Unknown; not independently verified. The employment chart choice does not determine the family chart choice. For consular processing, follow National Visa Center instructions; meeting a filing cutoff alone is not an invitation or appointment.

Official State Department bulletin. Verify the family chart USCIS permits for I-485 before filing. Sources and limitations.

Understanding green card waiting times

Which family preferences use the visa bulletin?

F1 covers unmarried sons and daughters age 21 or older of U.S. citizens; F2A covers spouses and unmarried children under 21 of permanent residents; F2B covers unmarried sons and daughters age 21 or older of permanent residents; F3 covers married sons and daughters of U.S. citizens; F4 covers siblings of U.S. citizens age 21 or older.

Do immediate relatives have the same wait?

Immediate relatives of U.S. citizens are outside these preference-category numerical limits. A preference cutoff or a current date is not a prediction of an interview or approval.
